guage. the dog was massive. quite possibly the most massive dog that huck could have bought. that was kind of the point though. huck had gone into the "dog hunt" looking for something big and scary. he'd always been terrified, no matter where he lived, and a big dog seemed like something that could come in quite handy for protection, especially when one lived in the slums. unfortunately for huck, he hadn't realized that the only intimidating thing about guage was his size. he was like one giant lap dog, personality-wise. he loved jumping on everyone he met and giving them lots of slobbery kisses. so unless someone posing a threat was absolutely terrified of big, loving dogs, huck was just out of luck. it didn't make huck like the dog any less though. in fact, guage was probably his only friend. most would find that to be a sad revelation, but to huck it was normal. he grew up without many friends, if any, and so the company of guage was actually a nice change for him.
the real downfall of having a large dog and living in a small apartment were the constant walks. exactly like the one that huck was currently on. guage wasn't exactly the most well-trained dog and anyone walking by could easily tell. in the front you had a large dog, nose to the ground, that looked like he was on a mission, and behind him was a tall, scrawny kid that looked like he belonged behind a computer screen, not out walking and hundred and fifty pound dog. this is how it always was for huck. you'd think with all of the walking he had to do with guage that he'd be better at it by now, but he wasn't. it had been the same scene ever since huck had purchased guage as a puppy, and things had only gone downhill since then.
there was no real path to the beach and so huck stumbled his way through the tall grasses that surrounded it, more or less jogging to keep up with guage. the dog could smell the salty water and was eager to reach one of his favorite locations around town, and so he pulled even harder on huck. it wasn't anything huck couldn't keep up with, but as soon as they reached the sand it was a whole different story. with one strong jerk, guage pulled huck forward, cuasing him to trip on the new footing. huck fell forward and landed with a thud on the soft sand, the leash being ripped from his hand. "stupid dog," huck muttered under his breath. of course, he didn't really mean it. these walks were just getting to be a bit too much of a hassle. he needed to figure out a better way to handle his massive dog before guage accidentally hurt him. huck made no attempt to chase after the dog, who was now romping in the cold waves. instead he pushed himself up and sat in the sand. he pulled a worn paperback book from his back pocket and began to read.
i appologize for the horrendousness of this post. i haven't done this in over a year. i promise i'll get better with a few posts.
