The clock on the wall ticked away, the seconds feeling like minutes and the minutes like hours. College was boring enough. Summer courses however? They were worth killing yourself over right in the middle of the lecture hall. On many occasions, Riku had been more than tempted to get up in the middle of his sociology class and commit suicide via his fountain pen to his brain, but really, he didn't want someone to have to clean up that mess. Emily would be more than angry at him too if he went and killed himself because that would mean she'd be shipped back to the orphanage and all alone... He couldn't do that to the teen. Josh would get mad too... He'd be all homeless again and really, that wasn't a thing Riku wanted for his friend and roommate. So, in thinking, Riku couldn't go and kill himself because his daughter would be alone and his roommate would be a hobo again. People were counting on him! He just had to live through this god awful class.

The hour bell went off somewhere and the class rushed out of the hall at an almost comedic speed. Riku wasn't the only one who hated summer courses. It was one of those, once a week classes which meant, while he only had to be there one day a week for a short summer semester, the class time was twice as long and even more agonizing than a normal course. Once a week, random part time classes were all Riku could afford to do at that time, and by afford it was meant time was needed, not money. Running a cafe, raising a teenager, playing in a band and still finding time to see doctors and occasionally date left little to no time for Riku to continue his education. Not that he really minded. He always had preferred to be busy over bored, kept his mind off the little things and helped him get over mental obstacles he was always running into otherwise. At least, doing this occasional schooling thing was good, kept his mind sharp, helped him to his degree and got him out of the usual places and meeting new people.

Slinging his messenger bag over his shoulder, Riku shuffled his way down the lecture hall's steps, ignoring some of his classmates comments and questions about his look that day. It was another hot and humid day but Riku still strolled around in his black skinnies, orange tee-shirt, black suit jacket, black scarf and his typical white boots. Sure, it was a warm outfit but the college inside was freezing and Riku had problems retaining body heat anyway, even in the summer he was cold. He blamed his tiny frame for the whole 'I'm always cold no matter what I do' issue of his. Walking to the exit of the building was more of the same, people pointing him out to friends, making comments and such. The best thing he had heard though was someone asking someone else if he was a she, for the only thing suffering from the heat and humidity was Riku's hair. Usually fluffy and back-combed to oblivion, Riku's hair fell flat against his head today, a little body from the in air moisture but still it was smooth and shinny, falling in just a way that would make people question if he were a boy or girl.

Ah... Fresh air. Time to ruin it. Rummaging around in his bag, Riku searched for his cigarettes, having waited over three hours to have one. Finding the desired items, slender fingers pulled a stick from the pack and the lighter before the dark clad twenty year old stopped in his tracks to light up. A long drag latter and he was off, making his way to the parking lot and his car. The crowd of people ahead seemed to part and move out of the way of something or someone, since there had been a few angry words tossed by the lazier of the crowed who did not want to alter their trek for the smallest of reasons. When a squeaky version of his name hit him, Riku looked around almost frantically, worried that it was Emily here to ambush him and lecture him about smoking, as she was prone to do on her days off from track. But Emmy had track today which only left him with... ''JOSHIE!'' Riku picked up his pace and seemingly launched himself at the younger, not paying much mind to the fact Josh was sitting on the ground and any impact might just kill him. Oops?
